On Monday night, gunmen set fire to the Afor Atta Divisional Police Headquarters in Imo State’s Njaba Local Government Area.

This came just hours after a convoy carrying a former governor of the state, Ikedi Ohakim, was assaulted, killing four of his police orderlies.

A neighborhood member told our correspondent that the attackers went to the police station and dropped explosives on it, causing it to burn.

According to our source, no police officers were on duty when the assailants struck.

“The police station in my community has been burned,” the person claimed. It was set on fire yesterday night. Nobody could come out because they were afraid. The area is currently deserted.”

The same police station was vandalized in June 2021 after two courts adjacent to it were burned down.

Micheal Abattam, the state police spokesperson, had yet to issue a remark about the incident.
