Ibrahim Kashim Bench Warrant: NDC Governorship Candidate Denies Evading Court

|By Chinwendu Nwani – The Ibrahim Kashim bench warrant controversy has drawn attention in Bauchi State after a Chief Magistrate Court issued a warrant against the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election over an alleged defamation case.

The court issued the bench warrant on June 9, 2026, following a complaint filed by Barrister Ahmed Sani and Barrister Hussaini Saraki. The lawyers accused Kashim of making defamatory remarks during a television interview.

According to court documents, the complainants alleged that Kashim claimed one of them had collected money from a client without providing the agreed legal service. They also alleged that he suggested they supplied information about him to government officials.

The lawyers described the comments as false and damaging. They argued that the remarks harmed their professional reputation and exposed them to public ridicule. Consequently, their counsel urged the court to compel Kashim’s appearance, leading to the issuance of the warrant.

However, Kashim rejected suggestions that he ignored the court process. Responding to the Ibrahim Kashim bench warrant, he said the summons was served on a Sunday after he had already arranged to travel to Abuja for earlier engagements.

He stated that he immediately instructed his lawyer to appear in court and request an adjournment. Therefore, he argued that his absence should not be interpreted as an attempt to evade justice.

Furthermore, Kashim reaffirmed his confidence in the judiciary and pledged to defend himself through legal means. He insisted that he respects the rule of law and remains ready to appear before the court when proceedings resume.

The Ibrahim Kashim bench warrant case is expected to remain in focus as legal proceedings continue in Bauchi State.
