Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has defended his appearance at the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention after facing criticism online.

Ice Prince defends APC convention performance by revealing that the invitation came from the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, whom he described as his uncle.

The artiste faced backlash after performing at the ruling party’s convention while many Nigerians continue to complain about insecurity and economic hardship across the country.

Critics accused the rapper of supporting a partisan political gathering instead of using his platform to demand accountability from the government. However, Ice Prince rejected the criticism during a recent episode of the Black Box podcast.

According to him, his decision to perform was based on family loyalty rather than politics.

“Who booked me for that event? My uncle – Nentawe Yilwatda who is the APC Chairman. He is not just a random person to me. He is my real uncle,” he said.

Ice Prince defends APC convention performance at a time when public figures and entertainers increasingly face pressure to speak on national issues. While some fans defended his right to perform wherever he chooses, others argued that celebrities should remain sensitive to the country’s challenges.

The debate has also reignited conversations about the relationship between entertainment and politics in Nigeria. In recent years, several musicians and actors have either endorsed political parties or performed at campaign events.

Meanwhile, the rapper has not indicated whether he plans to participate in future APC events.
