By Babatunji Wusu – The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Tuesday visited the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja to deepen cooperation on major infrastructure projects across Nigeria. The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to improve the protection and smooth delivery of critical public projects nationwide.

A statement shared by the Nigeria Police Force on X confirmed that the visit included talks with the Minister of Works, David Umahi, the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, and senior ministry directors.

During the discussions, officials focused on several ongoing road construction projects, including the important Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. The parties also reviewed wider efforts aimed at boosting national growth, transport links, and economic development through improved infrastructure.

Speaking during the meeting, Olatunji Disu assured the ministry of continued police support for the protection of major public projects. According to the statement, the police leadership remains committed to ensuring that contractors and government agencies carry out their duties without disruption.

“The Nigeria Police Force will continue to provide adequate security support and deploy necessary operational resources to ensure the smooth execution and protection of critical national infrastructure projects nationwide,” the statement read.

The meeting also stressed the importance of stronger cooperation between government agencies to tackle vandalism and other threats affecting public infrastructure. Authorities believe closer coordination will help reduce damage to ongoing projects and improve project delivery.

The Federal Government recently expressed concern over acts of vandalism along sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway corridor. David Umahi warned that damage to drainage systems and road facilities could affect the long-term durability of the project.
