Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo, reported that since January, commercial motorcycle riders, often known as Okada, have brought in more than N800 million for his administration.
According to Akeredolu, the funds were raised by selling tickets to Okada riders in all 18 local government areas.
Akeredolu spoke at the ceremony for the state’s commercial motorcycle riders’ lottery draw for 2022 while being represented by his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
When he joined the company, he said that annual revenue from ticket sales to Okada riders was around N4.8 million.
“We were able to generate N350 million in 2018,” he said. The state made over N538 million in 2019, and thanks to the COVID-19 epidemic, we were able to make over N 660 million in 2020. We earned more than N750 million in 2021.
As a result, commercial motorbike riders were invited to this hall the previous year and given gifts in exchange for their dedication, including everything from gas cylinders to different-sized generating sets.
“The amount collected on their account since January is about N800 million. This is a noticeable and impressive accomplishment. Given the foregoing, we made the decision to reward our riders in seven local government areas for a job well done during the year.
165 sacks of rice, 100 cartons of Indomie noodles, 53 bags of semovita, 100 litres of groundnut oil, 14 standing fans, 2000 personalized ball pens, and a TVS plus HLX motorcycle with free insurance, a free number plate, a free one-year license, and a driver’s license renewal were among the giveaways.
Tolu Adegbie, the head of the Ondo Internal Revenue Service, claimed that a lot of money was made by the seven local governments.
