Babatunji Wusu –

According to the Cross River command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, 2.05 tons of hard drugs were taken from drug dealers in the state between January and December.

This was revealed by the state commander, Rachel Umebuali, on Monday during an interview in Calabar.

Umebuali, who holds the position of Commander of Narcotics (CN), revealed that 223 additional individuals were detained in relation to the seizure that occurred during the year that was examined.

The commandant classified the seized hard substances as cannabis, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and psychotropics, but noted that there were 201 male and 22 female suspects.

She claims that 1.64 tons of cannabis were found, compared to 3.5 grams, 4.3 grams, 81.9 grams, and 410.24 kg of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and psychotropic drugs, respectively.

Umebuali stated that multiple suspects were charged in court, but he would not provide the numbers.

She went on to say that although some of the individuals who had been arrested were released from custody and found not guilty, the order had resulted in the conviction of other suspects.

The commander in charge of drugs, lamenting the increase in drug-related incidents involving young people, recognized cars and motorcycles as the peddlers’ primary means of transportation.

She claimed that despite a few clear difficulties, the command managed to achieve enormous success in the previous year.

She states that they hope to improve on this performance in the upcoming year, aside from the seizures and arrests made in the previous year.

“Cultism and communal crises, inaccessible and poor roads, particularly during the rainy season, are the main obstacles to our operations.”
