The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) began distributing election materials to Lagos State’s twenty local governments on Monday at the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, carried out the distribution under the supervision of Idowu Owohunwa, the State Commissioner of Police, and military personnel.
The information was disseminated in advance of Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections in the state.
All political parties were invited to the distribution exercise, according to the INEC chief, to ensure justice and fairness.
The purpose of today’s activity, according to Agbaje, is to signal to Nigerians—particularly those in Lagos State—that we are prepared for the polls on Saturday.
We have adequate supplies, he continued. Even better, we have extra. Voting papers and other delicate items are not an issue for us.
“The police and troops will convoy all trucks to various Local Government Areas,” the INEC chairman promised.
“What we are doing today is joining the INEC team in distributing voting materials to different local government areas,” state police chief CP Idowu Owohunwa stated.
The police chief further stated, “We are to provide adequate protection, and by adequate security, I mean adequate armed security that will follow all the trucks bringing the goods to Local Government Areas.”
“ He said, “There are additional police personnel positioned in the local government locations to ensure the protection of the materials before and during polls.”
At the distribution exercise were representatives from numerous political parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
