Ojo Ogundeji, 50, set himself on fire in his father’s house in Ondo West local government area of Ondo State.

According to sources, the man barricaded himself in a room and set fire to the house.

The incident occurred in an old house in Odojomu, in the Oloruntedo district of the ancient Ondo city.

According to a source, Ojo traveled from Lagos to celebrate the Christmas and New Year holidays with his family before deciding to commit suicide.

Despite the fact that he was rescued by neighbors and taken to a hospital for medical attention, he died there.

The building he set on fire was also destroyed before the State Fire Service arrived.

“In the morning, Ojo set a fire under the house’s staircase and said nobody should put it out,” said the landlord’s wife, Mrs. Sabaina Ogundeji. However, with the assistance of passers-by, it was postponed.

“Everyone was outside playing in the evening. So Ojo went inside, took his clothes, and set them on fire. He later went inside, locked himself in the room, and set fire to it. We could hear his voice when he yelled. People rushed there to force open the door and bring him out. But he died later in the hospital.”

“When we rescued Ojo, he was not yet dead,” according to another source. He told us that he set fire to the house because some people were mocking him because of his problem.

“His remains have been deposited at the morgue of the Ondo State Hospital.”

Confirming the incident, the Enu-Owa Division Police said a man from Odojomu came to report it.

As a result, the police urged the general public to be more vigilant in their homes or offices to avoid having their property destroyed by unneeded fire outbreaks or situations.
