In the semifinal matchup against Croatia, Julian Alvarez gave Argentina a 2-0 lead with a miraculous solo goal in the 39th minute.

He received the ball from Lionel Messi close to the center circle, ran all the way to the goal, and finished the opportunity. Alvarez even engaged in combat with a few defenders who attempted to clear the ball but were successful in keeping it.

To make the score 2-0 in favor of Argentina, he finally sent the ball past the goalkeeper when up against Dominik Livakovic.

Alvarez was the one who drew the foul from Livakovic even for the first goal. Off a long ball from the midfield, he made a move to go behind the defense. He attempted to chip the ball past Livakovic in a one-on-one position, which led to the foul.

Messi scored the opening goal after converting the penalty kick.

The 22-year-old has made it a habit to be there for his team at crucial times. Lionel Scaloni decided to choose him over senior Lautaro Martinez as a result.

Alvarez was present at the appropriate time and location in the Round of 16. He capitalized on Mat Ryan’s oversight as the keeper and put the ball in the goal. Argentina’s second goal was also this one. When Australia scored again, it was clear that Alvarez’s goal was the deciding factor.

Alvarez became the first player from Argentina to score two goals in his first World Cup starts since Hernan Crespo in 2006 with Argentina’s second goal against the Socceroos.

Against Poland in the group stage, Alvarez scored his first goal of the competition. He also made a run from behind to double Argentina’s lead there.
