On the Gusau-Tsafe Road in Zamfara State, gunmen suspected of being bandits kidnapped a retired colonel, Rabi’u Yandoto, and his two children.
Mohammed Hassan, a local, said Yandoto was on his way to his hometown with his two children on Sunday night when he was ambushed by bandits and taken to the jungle.
“The bandits assaulted the retired colonel on Sunday night and kidnapped him, his two children, and two other victims,” Hassan added.
“We heard gunfire and ran into the jungle in fear of the bandits, but we subsequently realized Colonel Yandoto was their target,” Hassan explained.
Yandoto is a close political competitor of Senator Kabiru Marafa, and he has been working against Marafa’s aim to win the 2023 election.
He leads the Zamfara All Progressive Congress political group ‘Wake da Shinkafa,’ which exists solely to ensure that Kabiru Marafa does not win the senatorial seat in 2023.
Attempts to contact the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Mohammed Shehu, were futile because he could not be reached by phone at the time of filing this report.
