The INEC Anti-Corruption Workshop has opened in Abuja with a warning that compromised elections undermine public trust and weaken democracy ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. Representing INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, National Commissioner Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu said credible elections remain the foundation of democratic governance and urged electoral officials to uphold integrity. She praised the ICPC for organising the training to improve staff capacity and strengthen election management.
Speaking for ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu, Director of Legal Services Henry Emore said corruption continues to hinder national development and increases the cost of elections through litigation, supplementary polls, and security challenges. He commended electoral officers for their dedication and expressed confidence that the workshop would improve transparency, accountability, and the delivery of free, fair, and credible elections in 2027.
