Tinubu Meets Benue Leaders as Political Tensions Deepen

Tinubu meets Benue leaders as President Bola Tinubu holds a private meeting with Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and former governor Gabriel Suswam at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The closed-door talks come as political tensions continue to rise in the North-Central state.

The Presidency has not disclosed the agenda of the meeting. However, the timing has drawn attention because of growing divisions within the Benue chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Alia and supporters of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, have reportedly intensified their struggle for control of the party structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, Suswam has remained a prominent political figure following recent developments after the APC senatorial primaries. His presence at the meeting has further fuelled interest in the discussions.

Although officials have not confirmed whether the Benue political crisis formed part of the talks, observers believe the Presidency could be seeking to ease tensions, encourage reconciliation and strengthen unity among key political stakeholders.

So far, no official statement has emerged from the Presidential Villa on the outcome of the meeting. Nevertheless, Tinubu meets Benue leaders at a crucial moment as political alignments continue to shift ahead of the next election cycle.
