Inter Miami signs Fricio Caicedo from LDU Quito

|By Babatunji Wusu – Inter Miami signs Fricio Caicedo after the MLS club struck a deal with LDU Quito for the highly rated Ecuadorian defender.

The 18-year-old centre-back had been close to joining Belgian side Royal Antwerp. However, Inter Miami stepped in and completed a late move to secure his signature.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal, saying Inter Miami successfully hijacked the transfer for the 2008-born defender. Caicedo was reportedly on the verge of joining Royal Antwerp before the American club reached an agreement with LDU Quito.

Caicedo has emerged as one of Ecuador’s brightest young talents. He represented the South American nation at Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 levels before earning opportunities with the senior national team.

In May 2025, Ecuador coach Sebastián Beccacece invited him to train with the first team. A year later, Caicedo received his first senior squad call-up for preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The defender made his senior international debut on 30 May 2026 when Ecuador defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 in a friendly match.

Inter Miami signs Fricio Caicedo as the club continues to strengthen its squad with promising young talent. The move highlights the growing appeal of Major League Soccer for emerging South American stars.

Inter Miami signs Fricio Caicedo and will now hope the defender develops into a key player for the club in the coming years.
