|By Babatunji Wusu – Cote d’Ivoire head coach Emerse Fae admitted he was frustrated after his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Germany in their FIFA World Cup 2026 match on Saturday night.
Emerse Fae frustrated after Cote d’Ivoire’s defeat to Germany became the main talking point after the Elephants failed to protect an early lead at Toronto Stadium.
Franck Kessie put Cote d’Ivoire ahead in the opening stages of the game and gave the African side hope of securing a famous victory. However, Germany responded strongly after the break.
Substitute Deniz Undav turned the game around with two second-half goals. As a result, Germany secured a place in the Round of 32 and extended their impressive campaign.
Speaking after the match, Emerse Fae frustrated after Cote d’Ivoire’s defeat to Germany said his players had performed well against one of the tournament favourites but failed to hold their advantage.
“It’s more frustration that we’re feeling after this defeat because we were able to open the score against this strong German side,” Fae told reporters.
Meanwhile, Germany showed resilience and quality when it mattered most. Their response in the second half underlined why they remain among the strongest contenders in the competition.
Despite the loss, Cote d’Ivoire can take positives from their performance. The Elephants competed strongly and troubled Germany for long periods. Nevertheless, missed opportunities and defensive lapses proved costly.
For now, Emerse Fae frustrated after Cote d’Ivoire’s defeat to Germany will hope his team can learn from the setback and return stronger in future international competitions.
