World No. 2 Jannik Sinner continued his dominant form on the hard courts of Florida this Tuesday, securing a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6(4) victory over American talent Alex Michelsen. The win propels the Italian star into the Miami Open quarterfinals and extends a remarkable statistical milestone. Sinner has now won an unprecedented 28 consecutive sets at the ATP Masters 1000 level, a streak that highlights his current stranglehold on the men’s tour.

The match was far from a straightforward affair, particularly in the second set. After edging a tight opening frame, Sinner found himself in a precarious position, trailing 2-5 as Michelsen ramped up his intensity from the baseline. Demonstrating the resilience of a champion, the 24-year-old Italian clawed his way back to force a tiebreak. In the decisive moments, Sinner’s clinical execution allowed him to close out the match and maintain his perfect head-to-head record against the young American.

Reflecting on his performance during the on-court interview, Sinner credited his delivery for getting him through the tough patches. “I felt like the serve helped me quite a lot today, especially in important moments and in the tiebreak,” he noted. Despite the win, the perfectionist in him remains focused on growth, adding that he needs to improve his rhythm from the back of the court during his upcoming practice sessions to go deeper into the tournament.

With this victory, Sinner reaches his 20th career Masters quarterfinal and keeps his quest for the rare “Sunshine Double” alive. Having already clinched the title at Indian Wells earlier this month without dropping a single set, he is now aiming to become the first male player since Roger Federer in 2017 to win both major U.S. hard-court events in a single season. As the tournament progresses, all eyes remain on the world number two to see if he can complete this historic feat.

Do you believe Jannik Sinner currently has the mental edge to surpass Roger Federer’s 2017 Sunshine Double achievement?
