…Gov Namadi warns against diversion of farm inputs
…Says state targets 3.6m metric tonnes in annual rice production

The Jigawa State Government has issued a stern warning against the sale or diversion of agricultural inputs earmarked for the 2025 dry season rice farming programme.

Governor Umar Namadi, who gave the warning on Saturday during the official launch of the dry season rice farming in Jura village, Auyo Local Government Area, said his administration would not hesitate to take decisive action against anyone found tampering with the inputs meant for genuine farmers.

The governor stressed that the initiative is a bold step by the present administration to boost food security and drive agricultural transformation across the state.

“We have an ambitious target of producing 3.6 million metric tonnes of rice annually. With diligent farmers, committed stakeholders, and supportive partners, this goal is within reach,” Namadi declared.

He revealed that over 58,500 farmers from 27 local government areas would benefit from the programme, which provides subsidized agricultural inputs, modern seed varieties, and access to improved farming techniques.

“This dry season alone, our farmers will cultivate more than 130,000 hectares using enhanced methods such as fertilization, weed control, and irrigation. The goal is not just increased output, but complete transformation of the rice value chain,” he added.

The governor further explained that the programme, under the Rice Value Chain Development Project, will also support full mechanization, the establishment of processing hubs, and improved market access—both locally and internationally.

He urged farmers to seize the opportunity and assured them of continuous government support through favourable policies and sustained investment.

“Let me be clear—anyone caught diverting or selling these inputs will be dealt with. This administration is determined to ensure that the resources reach the right hands and are used effectively,” Namadi warned.

He called on all farmers to support ongoing government policies aimed at diversifying the state’s economy, while reiterating his commitment to transforming Jigawa into Nigeria’s leading hub for rice production and agribusiness.
