Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has received two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in what officials describe as a sign of shifting political alignments in the state.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the defectors—Alhaji Sani Haru Babura from Babura Local Government Area and Alhaji Mustapha Sule Tankarkar from Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area—formally joined the APC at the Government House in Dutse, alongside their supporters.

Welcoming them, Governor Namadi said their move reflected changing political dynamics in the state.

“These are people who have spent 28 years in the PDP without thinking of changing parties. Today, they are here,” he said.

The governor described the defectors as influential figures at the grassroots level, noting their potential to shape political outcomes within their communities.

He added that the APC remains open to new members willing to contribute to its agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Babura and Tankarkar said their decision to leave the PDP was influenced by the governor’s leadership style and his approach to governance.

They also pledged to mobilise support for the APC ahead of future elections.
