Tunji wusu –
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged to implement measures that will lower unemployment in the nation by the Progressive League of Youth Voters for Tinubu and Shettima, a youth organization of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC youngsters requested that the president select young Nigerians to his cabinet in order to solve the growing unemployment.
The young organization lamented the rising expense of life among Nigerians, but supported the recent removal of fuel subsidies, calling it a brave move in the right direction.
The national coordinator of the APC youth group, Ambassador Abdul Usman Shuaibu, described the policies and appointments made so far by President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as square pegs in square holes during a press conference held yesterday in Abuja during the investiture of their national Patron, Engr Ayoola Oyejide.
However, he added that it was necessary to bring the president’s attention to some of the demands of Nigerians. “These efforts have enormously boosted Nigeria’s economy as evidenced in the Nigerian Stock Exchange and her international reputation.
Shuaibu encouraged Tinubu to address the issue and minimize it after noting that half of Nigerians are either under or unemployed, a number he claimed had increased to two-thirds for young people, who make up the majority of the population.
“The current state of national security in Nigeria is worrisome,” he said. The waning Boko Haram insurgency in the north-east is being replaced by banditry and terrorism in the north-west, the deadly farmer-herder crisis is gripping the north-central region, the south-east is beset by separatist violence and the accompanying criminal opportunism, the south-west is experiencing an increase in gang and ritual activities, and the south-south is plagued by militancy, piracy, and oil theft. The president needs to take control of these grave security issues.
“The rise in living expenses is unprecedented and intolerable. The president is anticipated to revitalize our faltering and severely broken economy.
“In Nigeria, corruption among public officials is pervasive. We anticipate the president to tackle the threat head-on, setting an example of transparency and having zero tolerance for arrogance, notwithstanding his strong opposition to it.
“Nigeria is endowed with a large number of gifted and clever young people who are hardly given the chance or opportunity to use these talents. Thank goodness President Tinubu has a strong track record of developing and including young people in politics. We therefore anticipate him continuing in that vein, particularly when appointing ministers, department and agency heads, board members for federal organizations, etc.
The APC youngsters pledge their support to President Tinubu and Vice President Shetimma and reassure Nigerians that the new leaders have what it takes to address these issues head-on and even go above and beyond their expectations.
The youths said, “As we can see, even in the face of reactionary forces originating from entrenched vested interests, they are already embracing a hardline commitment to the principles of democratic good governance (as evidenced in the withdrawal of fuel subsidies).
