Plateau State police have arrested a pastor, Albarka Sukuya, for allegedly kidnapping himself twice and demanding ransom from his church members.
Alfred Alabo, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Wednesday, January 11, that the suspect staged his kidnapping to dupe unsuspecting people. “The Police has uncovered the nefarious act of one Pastor Albarka Sukuya of Jenta Apata, Jos, who on several occasions staged his kidnap with his cohorts and received ransom from sympathising members of his congregation.
Following his fictitious kidnappings on November 14 and 15, 2022, where sympathisers paid N400,000 and N200,000, respectively, as ransom for his release, the incidents raised suspicion.
The clergyman was summoned by the DPO Nasarawa Gwong Police Station, CSP Musa Hassan, based on credible intelligence, and an investigation was immediately launched.
