The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, and the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, on Friday morning stormed the Federal High Court in Abuja ahead of a crucial judgment that could decide the fate of the party’s forthcoming national convention.
Politics Nigeria gathered that Damagum, Mohammed, and other members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) arrived the court premises early as the court prepared to deliver judgment in a suit filed by some party officials from Abia, Imo, and Bayelsa States.
The plaintiffs are seeking to stop the 2025 PDP national convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, alleging irregularities and violations in the processes leading to the planned exercise.
According to party insiders, the presence of the top PDP leaders at the court underscores the significance of the ruling, which could determine whether the convention will proceed as scheduled or be suspended indefinitely.
Security was reported to be tight around the court premises, with armed personnel stationed at all entrances while party members and supporters gathered outside in anticipation of the verdict.
Court officials confirmed that judgment would be delivered later today, bringing an end to weeks of legal uncertainty that had thrown the opposition party into tension over its leadership structure and preparations for the convention.
As at press time, both Damagum and Governor Mohammed declined to speak to journalists, preferring to await the court’s decision before making any official statement.
