Some gunmen believed to be herdsmen have attacked a convoy of correctional officials near Plateau High Court, Barkin Ladi, freeing six criminal suspects.
The convoy was said to be conveying 14 suspects who were charged with crimes ranging from murder to kidnapping and rape.
According to an eyewitness, at the arrival of the convoy at court premises, gunmen, who had laid ambush by the entrance, opened fire and freed the suspects unchallenged.
The Plateau State Commandant, Nigerian Correctional Service, S.A. Musa, had told the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka that the Court did not notify him of a change in hearing date.
However, four suspects have been arrested by police, while two motorcycles believed to belong to the gunmen recovered.
