Babatunji Wusu –

Five employees of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were let off because of alleged corruption.

After coming before a disciplinary tribunal, two more people who neglected to report to their designated duty post received reprimands.

This comes after eleven other people were recently arraigned for the same charges before a disciplinary tribunal.

Five personnel were terminated by the state civil service, according to a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA.

He claims that the LASTMA Management team is presently conducting an administrative assessment of the cases of the remaining 14 people.

He stated that the five officers’ termination letters had been sent out since Friday, December 8, 2023, after the Lagos State Civil Service Commission approved all of the recommendations put out by the Personnel Management Board at a meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2023.

Five Lastma officials who were charged with corruption received a letter terminating their employment, while two others were “reprimanded” for missing work without permission, according to Taofiq.

Taofiq went on to say that Bakara Oki Olalekan, the acting general manager of LASTMA, had urged employees to get busy and that anyone found to be at fault would face disciplinary action in accordance with the current policies as outlined in the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

He cited the Acting General Manager as emphasizing that the public’s readiness to share their experiences—both good and bad—with management is a prerequisite for the agency’s improvement.

He warned drivers that breaking the State Traffic Law could result in fines. Therefore, he advised them to always abide by the law.

“We must all work toward a Greater Lagos in order to fulfill the goals set forth by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in the First Pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation) and for the benefit of all.”

He stated, “We wish to inform well-meaning and concerned Lagos residents and the driving public that we have multiple windows [08100565860, 08129928515, 08129928503, (08129928597 WhatsApp only) & Provost on 08129928490] through which complaints can be channeled for prompt action.”

He gave the public his word that these complaints would be looked at quickly and impartially.

While admonishing all motorists to follow the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law 2018, Bakare Oki revealed that the charges against the 14 Lastma Officials who remain indicted are still being reviewed administratively.
