Babatunji Wusu –
Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso has been dismissed from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for allegedly refusing to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Committee.
The NNPP’s presidential candidate for 2023, Kwankwaso, was previously suspended by the party’s leadership during the National Convention on August 29 in Lagos, according to The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Remember that the NNPP’s National Executive Council (NEC) established a Disciplinary Committee and gave it five days to invite Kwankwaso to testify in response to accusations of egregious anti-party behavior and improper use of campaign/party finances.
The NEC had issued a warning that Kwankwaso would be removed from the party in accordance with the terms of the party’s constitution as revised in 2022 if he failed to appear before the Disciplinary Committee.
As a result, Kwankwaso was removed from the NEC with immediate effect, according to a statement released on Tuesday in Lagos by Mr. Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, the NNPP’s acting national publicity secretary, because he refused to accept the committee’s invites.
“The NEC met in an emergency session on Friday, September 1 and decided as follows,” said Abdulrasaq.
Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is thus expelled from the NNPP with immediate effect as a result of his unwillingness to attend before the disciplinary committee, which met on Thursday, August 31, despite having been formally invited in writing.
Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former presidential contender, would be questioned for financial irregularities related to improper handling of public funds, it is agreed.
According to NAN, the NNPP crisis began on August 24 when the National Working Committee of the Kwankwaso-aligned party announced the suspension of the party’s founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Agbo Major.
