The Court of Appeal in Lagos unanimously validated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s victory as the winner of the Delta State election conducted on March 18.
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Delta State governorship, filed an appeal, which the appellate court dismissed.
The court dismissed Omo-Agege’s appeal as lacking merit. On September 29, the Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, seated in Asaba, confirmed Oborevwori’s victory in the March 18 governorship election.
Omo-Agege, on the other hand, filed an appeal with the appellate court against the verdict of the electoral petition tribunal. Omo-Agege, the most recent Deputy President of the Senate, has demanded in his appeal to be declared the poll’s winner.
However, Oborevwori requested the court to dismiss the appeal, claiming it lacked merit. The Court of petition affirmed Oborevwori’s election and dismissed Omo-Agege’s petition for lack of merit in its decision on Friday.
The lower tribunal’s decision was also upheld by the appellate court. In a separate verdict, the tribunal dismissed Kenneth Gbaji’s appeal against the PDP, APC, and Labour Party, LP, as well as their governorship candidates.
Similarly, in a separate decision, the appellate court denied the appeal by the Labour Party, LP, and its governorship candidate, Ken Pela, disputing the lower tribunal’s decision upholding Oborevwori’s election.
