The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan, and the Majority Leader, Hon. Oluwole Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi, on Tuesday resigned from their leadership positions.
The resignations were announced during plenary at the Assembly complex in Akure and presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji.
Akinruntan, who represents Ilaje Constituency 1, and Ogunmolasuyi, who represents Owo Constituency 1, are both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Akinruntan cited political power-sharing arrangements within the state as the reason for stepping down.
Following the resignations, the House promptly elected Hon. Ololade Gbegudu (Okitipupa Constituency 2) as the new Deputy Speaker, while Hon. Olatunji Oshati (Ose Constituency) was appointed the new Majority Leader.
The development marks a significant shift in the Assembly’s leadership structure and may signal broader political realignments ahead of future elections in the state.
Details of the circumstances surrounding the resignations remain unclear at the time of filing this report.
