On Wednesday, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf confirmed Muhyi Rimingado’s reinstatement as Chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.

According to the governor, his reinstatement would ensure that the embattled anti-corruption agency chief completes his term.

Rimingado was fired in January 2023 by the administration of the immediate previous governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.

Rimingado, on the other hand, criticized his dismissal, claiming that he was not given a fair hearing.

His dismissal came two years after the state House of Assembly recommended it.

In July 2021, he was suspended for a month for allegedly opposing the deployment of an accountant from the state’s Office of the Accountant-General to the agency.

Yusuf, on the other hand, said Rimingado was “suspended from office by the previous administration in questionable circumstances” in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, on Wednesday.

“The reinstatement is effective immediately and in accordance with a court order,” the statement said in part.

In explaining why Rimingado was suspended, the Kano state Assembly stated that the decision was made in response to a letter of complaint delivered to the Assembly by the state’s Office of the Accountant-General.

The letter of dismissal, titled “Letter of Dismissal,” was dated January 24, 2023 and was signed by Alhaji Usman Alhaji, who was the State Government’s secretary at the time.

Among other things, it stated: “Following the resolution adopted by the Kano State House of Assembly at its meeting held on Monday, July 26, 2021 (16, Zulhijja, 1442AH) calling on the state government to, with immediate effect, remove you as the executive chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission on account of some alleged offences, I wish to convey the approval of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje
