Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has publicly apologized over his role in Tuesday’s ValueJet airport incident, insisting his controversial flask contained only water.
In a statement issued Friday, K1 expressed regret to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet, and his fans worldwide.
The singer described the August 5 episode at the local wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport as “unfortunate,” explaining that he suffers from chronic dehydration and was acting on medical advice to stay constantly hydrated.
“Contrary to the negative narrative, the flask I carried that day contained only water — not alcohol, as wrongly alleged,” he said. “For the record, I passed through two security screenings with the flask empty. It was only filled with water at the lounge before heading to the tarmac.”
K1 stressed that he had not boarded the plane, let alone been deboarded, and claimed CCTV footage from the lounge would verify his account.
The incident escalated when K1 reportedly attempted to stop the ValueJet aircraft from taking off after he was removed from the flight — a move that nearly resulted in disaster. The Federal Government subsequently barred him from flying for six months and suspended the pilots involved.
“I deeply regret the concerns caused. It was never my intention to disrupt operations or breach aviation protocols,” K1 said. “I remain committed to the values and responsibilities of being a global ambassador of Nigerian music and culture.”
