The Kaduna State Government has delivered on Governor Uba Sani’s promise by giving financial support to 97 former inmates granted clemency on Democracy Day. Each beneficiary received ₦100,000 as part of a wider clemency programme aimed at easing their return to society. The gesture reflects ongoing efforts in prison reform, rehabilitation support, and structured reintegration funding across the state.
The payments were made on Friday at the Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre, marking the final stage of the governor’s intervention under his constitutional power of mercy. Officials said the initiative goes beyond release, focusing on long-term stability and responsible living. The focus on inmate reintegration support remains central to the policy, ensuring former inmates gain a fair chance to rebuild their lives.
Assistant Controller Dalhat Ibrahim, who oversees the facility, praised the initiative as a strong boost for recovery and social adjustment. He said, “By paying the fines of the inmates and giving them financial assistance, this will encourage them to do what they are supposed to do. They are now set to be reintegrated into society,” he said. He added that the funds could serve as seed capital for small businesses, reinforcing the goal of rehabilitation support and community reintegration.
Alhaji Mohammed Suleiman, Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, confirmed that the disbursement completed the governor’s commitment made on June 12. He urged beneficiaries to remain law-abiding and avoid actions that could lead them back to custody, stressing the importance of sustained inmate reintegration support.
One beneficiary, Chuks Solomon from Ebonyi State, expressed gratitude, saying, “We thank the governor for giving us this opportunity to regain our freedom. We also appreciate the financial support because some of us will use it as capital to start a business. We pray that God continues to bless him,” he said.
Another beneficiary, Abubakar Umar, described the moment as deeply joyful and prayed for continued progress for Kaduna State and Nigeria.
