Kalu challenges Alex Otti over Ohafia projects, as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Abia State asks Governor Alex Otti to identify a project his administration has completed in Ohafia Local Government Area.
Kalu, who is from Ohafia, issued the challenge during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Friday.
He said he would withdraw from the 2027 governorship race if Governor Otti’s administration could provide evidence of a completed state government project in the local government area.
Kalu also claimed that Ohafia Local Government Area had received more than N16 billion in allocations over the past three and a half years.
However, he alleged that residents had yet to see a visible project funded and completed by the Abia State Government in the area.
The claim has become part of a wider political debate over government spending and infrastructure in Abia ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Kalu said the state government should provide clear evidence of projects completed in Ohafia if it disagrees with his position.
However, public records from the Abia State Government show that the administration has listed projects in the Ohafia area.
In May 2026, the state government announced the commissioning of the third section of the Umuahia-Abiriba-Ohafia road. It said the project included 22.5 kilometres of reconstructed Abiriba-Ohafia Highway.
The government also said Governor Otti commissioned the Abiriba Ring Road and the Abiriba-Ohafia Expressway on 28 May 2026. The project was renamed after the late Chief Otisi N. Kalu.
Those government records provide a direct point of reference for the dispute over Kalu Kalu challenges Alex Otti over Ohafia projects.
The Abia State Government has also published a list of completed projects across the state. Its records include the reconstructed Abiriba-Ohafia Highway and other infrastructure projects.
Meanwhile, Otti has said his administration completed 414 road projects covering 864.12 kilometres across Abia during its first three years in office. He made the claim during a media briefing in May 2026.
The disagreement therefore centres on what should count as a government project in Ohafia and which projects were funded, completed and delivered by the state government.
Kalu’s challenge puts the issue of project visibility and public accountability at the centre of the 2027 political conversation in Abia.
The ADC candidate has asked the governor to provide evidence to support the administration’s record in Ohafia.
The governor and the Abia State Government have, however, publicly documented infrastructure projects in the area, including the Abiriba-Ohafia road.
As the 2027 election approaches, claims about government projects, public spending and local development are likely to remain important issues for voters across Abia State.
