Kanayo O. Kanayo, Sola Sobowale Clinch AMVCA Industry Merit Awards

Veteran Nollywood stars Kanayo O. Kanayo and Sola Sobowale have received the Industry Merit Award at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The duo were honoured on Saturday night during the awards ceremony held at Eko Hotel and Suites.

The awards recognised their decades-long contributions to the Nigerian film industry and celebrated their influence as two of Nollywood’s most respected screen icons.

While receiving her award, Sobowale thanked the organisers, colleagues, fans and her children for supporting her career journey.

“I want to specially thank God Almighty for keeping me till this day to receive this honour. I thank my children, my colleagues and my fans because without you, ‘Ko si Shola’ (there is no Shola). It truly is an honour,” she said.

Kanayo O. Kanayo, on his part, used the occasion to condemn xenophobic attacks in South Africa, urging Africans to promote unity and mutual respect across the continent.

The AMVCA remains one of Africa’s biggest platforms celebrating excellence in film, television and entertainment.
