The Kano State Censorship Board has declared a sweeping ban on ‘Kauyawa Day’ celebrations, a tradition widely observed by women during wedding ceremonies. The board announced the directive to enforce social order and uphold moral standards.

Board chairman Abba El-Mustapha revealed the decision during a press briefing, describing the celebrations as inconsistent with the state’s cultural and religious values. According to the board, the ban aims to minimize immoral displays and disruptive gatherings.

In collaboration with law enforcement, the board plans to implement strict measures to ensure compliance. The announcement has sparked mixed reactions, with some citizens calling for a review of the cultural implications.
