Babatunji Wusu –

  • Power supply to Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states has dropped to an average of 130MW.
  • A tripping incident on the 330kV Shiroro–Kaduna transmission line caused the latest reduction.
  • Previous faults on Uguaji–Makurdi–Jos lines had already lowered supply from 300MW to 167MW.
  • Massive load shedding and rationing are ongoing due to insufficient power allocation.
  • KEDCO is coordinating with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to restore normal supply.
  • Apologies issued for the inconvenience caused by the power shortages.

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has announced a further decline in electricity supply to Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states, with the current power allocation falling to an average of 130 megawatts (MW). This reduction has intensified load shedding and rationing efforts, resulting in widespread power shortages across the affected regions.

KEDCO’s spokesperson, Sani Bala Sani, explained that the drop followed a tripping incident on one of the 330kV Shiroro–Kaduna transmission lines at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Monday. This event compounded earlier transmission network faults on the Uguaji–Makurdi–Jos lines, which had already reduced power allocation from over 300MW to 167MW.

The company reassured customers that it remains in close communication with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which is working to resolve the faults and restore normal electricity supply.

KEDCO expressed sincere apologies to consumers for the ongoing inconvenience caused by the power shortages.
