Seven employees who were found guilty of receiving double pay have had their employment at Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, terminated.
This was stated in a statement provided to newsmen in Lokoja on Friday by the institution’s public relations officer, Mr. David Balogun.
The Management said that it took these dramatic measures in response to an audit that the Office of the Kogi State Auditor General conducted at CUSTECH, Osara, which found that the staff in issue was inadvertently getting wages from two Kogi State Government institutions.
The names of the affected employees are as follows: Mr. Abubakar Ali of the Works and Maintenance Department was found collecting salary from his former workplace, Lokoja Local Government Authority since his assumption of duty at CUSTECH on January 11, 2022. Mr. Shaibu Musa of the Security Unit was also found collecting salary from his former employer, Kogi State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Other examples include Mr. Francis Amoto Lawal of the Bursary Department, who was caught receiving pay from his former employer, the Science, Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission, since starting work at CUSTECH, Osara on July 7, 2021; and Mr. Philip Anakobe Onotu of the Works and Maintenance Department, who was caught receiving pay from his former employer, the Office of the Deputy Governor, since starting work at CUSTECH, Osara on September 15, 2021.
On the list is Mr. Folorunsho Joseph Ojo of the Bursary Department, who was caught taking wages from his previous employer, the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Authority, ever since he started working at CUSTECH, Osara, on January 11, 2022.
Mr. Haruna Yakubu, a Senior Patrolman in the Security Unit at CUSTECH, Osara, had his appointment terminated due to his absence from duty starting on November 24, 2022, which was viewed as a major misconduct and violation of his employment contract.
According to the CUSTECH Staff Conditions of Service, all the affected staff members whose names the Office of the Auditor General sent down to CUSTECH were invited to an interactive session with a Panel made up of the Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Salawu Sadiku, of which they were found culpable. As a result, they were found guilty of holding more than one full-time paid job in the Public Service of the Federation, State, and Local Government.
“Although wishing you the best in life, we urge you to take greater care and pay strict attention to rules and regulations in your future activities,” reads the final sentence of their letter of termination.
