Toni Kroos, a midfielder for Real Madrid, claims he will retire at the Spanish team, albeit it may not be in June 2023, when his contract is set to expire.
According to certain Spanish publications, the German, who will turn 33 in January, is thinking of leaving club football at the end of the current campaign.
After being eliminated by England in the round of 16 of Euro 2020, Kroos retired from international service with Germany in June of last year. He called the rumors “funny” because even he hadn’t made up his mind about the future.
Prior to Real Madrid’s Champions League match against Celtic on Tuesday, Kroos said at a press conference, “I feel really well physically, everything are going well on the pitch, I’m very delighted.”
“Reading about events when not even I know what will happen can be humorous at times. I’ll consider it the following year, or during the (World Cup) break, I’ll consider what might occur, and I’ll gradually make a decision.
“I won’t switch clubs, which is something I’ve always said and which hasn’t changed. I will always reside here, and this is where I will retire; the only question is when.
Kroos joined Real Madrid in 2014 from Bayern Munich after receiving his first career dismissal in Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Girona on Sunday.
He has won the Champions League four times with Los Blancos and once with the German powerhouses. He has also won the Spanish, German, and World Cups with his national side.
The midfielder is content to hold off on prospective contract negotiations with Madrid until even March of the next year.
“Like myself, the club is really composed. I have been here for over eight and a half years,” Kroos continued. In January, February, or perhaps March, we’ll speak quietly.
If Madrid defeats Celtic on Wednesday, it will guarantee first place in its Champions League group.
