A Magistrate Court in Kuje, Abuja has ordered the remand of Prince Emmanuel Kanu — younger brother of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu — and his lead counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, following their participation in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest on Monday.
The duo, alongside 10 others, were arraigned by the Nigeria Police on charges bordering on incitement, breach of public peace and disobedience to a court order. They were accused of obstructing vehicular movement, denying citizens freedom of passage and chanting war songs while demanding Nnamdi Kanu’s immediate release.
Kanuta Kanu, another of Nnamdi Kanu’s siblings, confirmed the development in a post on X, alleging a coordinated move by “the executive, legislature and judiciary” to frustrate Kanu’s upcoming trial scheduled for Thursday.
Court documents confirming the charges were also shared on X by former Human Rights Commission chairman, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu. Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin had earlier disclosed that the accused persons would be charged once investigations were concluded.
They have now been remanded at Kuje Correctional Facility pending further court proceedings.
