Former Kano State Governor and prominent political figure, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on Nigerians to rally behind the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), urging citizens to support what he described as a renewed struggle for good governance, accountability, and true democracy.

Kwankwaso made the appeal on Monday through a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, where he stressed the urgent need for a credible political platform capable of addressing the country’s governance challenges and improving the welfare of Nigerians.

According to him, the NDC represents a fresh opportunity for citizens who are committed to strengthening democratic institutions and building a nation where people can thrive regardless of their social or economic background.

“We are determined to provide our people with a credible platform where they can thrive and realise their full potential,” Kwankwaso stated.

He noted that his decision to publicly call for support for the party was driven by a deep belief in democratic principles and the conviction that Nigerians deserve leadership that prioritises the people’s interests over personal ambition.

Kwankwaso said the movement was not just about politics, but about creating a national structure that would protect citizens’ rights, expand opportunities, and ensure transparent leadership at all levels of government.

“I therefore call on all our dedicated supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to join the NDC and stand with us in this renewed fight for good governance and true democracy,” he added.

The former governor emphasised that Nigeria’s democratic future depends on the willingness of citizens to actively participate in nation-building and demand accountability from leaders.

He explained that the NDC seeks to serve as a platform where democratic ideals are respected, institutions are strengthened, and public trust in governance is restored.

Political observers see Kwankwaso’s statement as a significant move ahead of future political alignments, especially as conversations around coalition-building and opposition restructuring continue to gain momentum across the country.

Kwankwaso, who remains one of the country’s influential northern political figures, has continued to play a visible role in national political discourse, particularly on issues relating to governance, electoral reforms, and democratic stability.

His latest call is expected to generate reactions across party lines as supporters and stakeholders assess the growing influence of the NDC in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

The appeal also comes at a time when many Nigerians continue to express concerns over economic hardship, insecurity, and demands for stronger institutional reforms, issues that have remained central to national political conversations.

With his latest declaration, Kwankwaso appears to be positioning the NDC as a vehicle for political renewal and a broader platform for citizens seeking alternative leadership and governance direction in the country.
