Usman faults defections, insists party is people-driven
Masses’ suffering alarming, national membership revalidation begins soon
The factional Interim National Chairperson of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, has said the party remains the only credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that Nigerians must keep faith with its people-centred vision.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, Usman said the Labour Party was not just another political party but a movement rooted in the yearnings of the people.
“We are committed to restoring national dignity, hope, and delivering people-centred governance,” she declared, adding that the hardship Nigerians currently face has become unbearable.
Usman criticised the wave of defections to the APC, stressing that the Labour Party remains unshaken and continues to enjoy strong support from the grassroots.
She maintained that many of those who exited the party never truly believed in its ideals, and their departure has brought greater clarity and strengthened internal unity.
“Our party is stronger. Their exit has helped us rediscover our focus. We are now better positioned to build from within,” she said.
The former senator appealed to aggrieved members to put aside their grievances and work towards a common purpose, noting that the Labour Party would soon kick off a nationwide membership revalidation, conduct congresses, and hold a national convention.
“We call on all who believe in our cause to return home. The time to rebuild is now,” she said.
