The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has told former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to abandon his ambition of contesting the 2027 presidential election, declaring that Nigerians will not entrust their future to someone who failed to earn the confidence of his own people.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the APC’s Publicity Secretary in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, mocked Obi’s political influence, noting that the former Anambra governor lacked the grassroots support needed to lead a nation.
Oladejo said it was laughable that Obi still nursed presidential ambitions despite losing in his polling unit during the last governorship election in Anambra State.
“A man who cannot win his polling unit has no business dreaming of winning a country,” Oladejo said. “A man rejected on his own street cannot claim nationwide acceptance. A man whose strongest base has crumbled cannot sell the lie of a national movement.”
He added that the defeat had shattered the “myth” surrounding Obi’s supposed political momentum and accused the former Labour Party flagbearer of seeking foreign sympathy after being rejected by Nigerians.
“We hope Mr. Obi will not run abroad to beg for foreign intervention to rescue him from this political free fall,” the statement continued. “Nigeria’s democracy is not a toy for desperate politicians seeking validation after rejection at home.”
Oladejo contrasted President Bola Tinubu’s “record of performance” with Obi’s “constant search for relevance through media interviews and online hashtags.”
“While President Tinubu is rebuilding institutions, fixing the economy, expanding infrastructure, and attracting foreign investment, Obi is busy granting contradictory interviews and hiding behind hashtags that collapse at the ballot box,” he stated.
The APC spokesman described the party’s victory in Obi’s polling unit as “symbolic, conclusive, and prophetic,” asserting that it reflected a national mood where “performance is triumphing over propaganda.”
“Peter Obi should spare the nation further melodrama. Let him first repair the political damage at his doorstep before pretending he can repair Nigeria,” Oladejo said.
