Everton, a struggling Premier League team, is reportedly planning to hire former Burnley manager Sean Dyche to take over for the fired Frank Lampard.
After Marcelo Bielsa allegedly declined the opportunity to take over at Goodison Park, Dyche has emerged as the front-runner for the Everton managerial position.
On Thursday, Bielsa traveled to London to meet with the Everton management, but reports indicate that the former Leeds manager did not think the team Lampard left behind would accommodate his demands for a fast-paced style of play.
Dyche, who was fired by Burnley in April 2017 prior to the team’s relegation from the Premier League, may be appointed in the upcoming twenty-four hours.
Since the team’s next game isn’t until February 4 at home against Premier League leaders Arsenal, Everton owner Farhad Moshiri is rumored to want a new manager in place by this weekend.
If Dyche is hired, he will take over a club that is in disarray due to fan demonstrations against Moshiri, who is appointing his sixth manager since purchasing Everton in 2016.
Everton is fighting to avoid playing in the lower division of English football for the first time since 1954 as it lingers in second-bottom of the Premier League.
After less than a year in command, Lampard was fired on Monday. His turbulent reign came to an end with a disastrous loss against West Ham last weekend.
During his ten-year tenure at Burnley, Dyche overachieved, twice guiding the Clarets to promotion from the Championship and maintaining them in the Premier League.
After finishing in seventh position in 2017–18, the 51-year-old also led Burnley to its first European qualifying in 51 years.
