Lauren James, a forward for England, has expressed regret for receiving a red card during the Women’s World Cup last-16 match against the Super Falcons of Nigeria and promised to take something positive away from the incident.

Following a VAR review, she was dismissed for stamping on Michelle Alozie of Nigeria in a match that England won 4-2 on penalties on Monday.

James will miss Saturday’s quarterfinal matchup with Colombia due to a suspension.

“You have my undying love and respect. She apologized to Alozie on social media for what had occurred.

“Playing with and for our England fans and my team-mates is my greatest honor, and I promise to learn from my experience,” he added.

The 21-year-old, who contributed three goals and three assists to her tally, was one of England’s standout players throughout the group stage.

Even if England wins the tournament, she might miss the rest of it if FIFA decides to extend her suspension beyond one game.

We are competing on the global stage, as Nigerian player Alozie of the Houston Dash in the US wrote in a post.

“This game is filled with passion, overwhelming feelings, and moments. Lauren James is to be admired.
