The Spanish football association announced on Thursday that Luis Enrique had resigned as Spain’s coach following the nation’s exit from the FIFA World Cup in the round of 16.
Spain failed to convert its game-long domination into a victory, and was shockedly defeated by Morocco on penalties following a scoreless draw on Tuesday.
The 52-year-old coach claimed responsibility for the loss following the game.
Enrique’s contract, which was initially signed in 2018, was set to expire at the conclusion of the current year.
