Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Prince Ashiru Oyebisi Olalere as the new Onilua of Ilua, bringing the succession process for the revered traditional stool in Kajola Local Government Area to a close.

The approval was conveyed in an official letter issued by the Oyo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Secretariat, Ibadan. The letter, dated December 31, 2025, and referenced CB.141/26A Vol. III/99, was signed by the Director of Chieftaincy Matters, A.M. Olajire.

According to the ministry, the governor “graciously approved” the appointment with effect from October 20, 2023. The government also confirmed that the appointment would be published in the Oyo State Government Official Gazette, in line with statutory provisions regulating traditional institutions in the state.

The decision has drawn positive reactions from indigenes of Ilua and stakeholders across Kajola Local Government Area, many of whom see the new monarch’s ascension as a boost to traditional authority and communal cohesion.

Congratulating the new Onilua, the state government expressed confidence that his reign would promote peace, stability, and socio-economic development within Ilua and its neighbouring communities.

The letter further wished the monarch a successful reign, expressing hope that his tenure would be marked by progress and sustained unity in Kajola Local Government Area.
