The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Alhaji Muttaka Dalhatu, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), leading members of his executive committee and several ward chairmen with him.

Dalhatu and the defectors were formally received on Wednesday at the Abuja residence of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Dalhatu said the decision followed wide consultations and growing dissatisfaction with the PDP-led administration in Zamfara, particularly over the worsening security situation. He commended Matawalle’s tenure as governor, citing what he described as deliberate efforts to tackle insecurity across the state.

Dalhatu accused the current administration of abandoning key campaign promises and prioritising political battles over governance. He said the defectors resolved to distance themselves from what he termed attempts to discredit Matawalle for political advantage.

“As indigenes of Maradun, we will not associate ourselves with any move to undermine the reputation of our son, who has contributed significantly to the development and stability of Zamfara State,” Dalhatu said.

Those who joined the APC alongside Dalhatu include the Maradun PDP Secretary, Alhaji Sani Ibrahim JB Danbaza; former State Assembly aspirant, Hon. Bashar Muhammad Danbaza; PDP Chairman of Damaga Ward, Mallam Umar Attahiru; and PDP Youth Leader of Gora Namaye Ward, Hon. Zayyanu Yakubu.

Dalhatu disclosed that more PDP members are expected to defect in the coming days as consultations continue.

Welcoming the new members, Matawalle described the APC as an inclusive party committed to the welfare of its members. He assured the defectors of equal opportunities within the party and pledged his support to enable them contribute effectively to its growth and electoral success.
