According to the Middle Belt Forum (MBF), President Muhammadu Buhari has performed below average since taking office as Nigeria’s president on May 29, 2015.
Buhari’s administration, according to MBF, has failed, leaving Nigerians in a worse situation than when it took office seven and a half years ago, particularly as insecurity and a weak economy bite hard.
In response to the President’s claim that he has done his best for the nation, the forum stated this on Wednesday.
In a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Forum, Al-Mahfoudh Bin Bayyah, and his deputy, Bob Roberts, in Washington, D.C., Buhari stated that his government’s top priority was to address issues impacting youths because they represented the nation’s hope for a better future.
Buhari reportedly added, “We are big in size and population, experiencing many issues, but in many areas, we are trying,” according to a statement by Garba Shehu, a presidential media assistant. I have worked hard over the past seven and a half years.
The national president of the MBF, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, on the other hand, referred to the President’s assertion as nothing more than international image-laundering.
“The message from President Buhari was a self-evaluation,” Pogu remarked. Of course, no one will ever criticize themselves. But since we are Nigerians, we are aware of how poorly he has performed.
You will be able to tell that he has failed and left Nigerians worse off whether you discuss the economy or security, which was his main platform when he ran for office.
“When you discuss the economy, keep in mind that the US dollar was worth approximately N197 when he arrived in 2015, but that it is now worth nearly N800 on the open market. Prices for products and services have increased beyond anyone’s wildest dreams.
“There is so much poverty, and the majority of Nigerians have poverty written all over their faces. Boko Haram in the North-East has raised the level of insecurity to include widespread murders, kidnappings for ransom, and other crimes.
The MBF helmsman also spoke about the country’s declining infrastructure during Buhari’s rule, noting that both foreign embassies and Nigerian citizens are aware of the reality.
“If you talk about the progress of the infrastructure, there is nothing to applaud. You cannot respond, “Yes, he can talk about this accomplishment.”
“So, I believe he only intended to clean up his image, but I also think foreign embassies are in Nigeria and are aware of the reality of what Nigerians have been going through for the past seven and a half years. And we Nigerians are aware of the reality.
“According to these indicators, the president’s statements do not accurately reflect the situation in this country. It is preferable for Mr. President to acknowledge his many areas of failure while also promising to try his best to make amends before he leaves office. Instead of stating that he has done his best, I believe that would have been a more appropriate statement, Pogu continued.
