Reality TV star Mercy Eke has stirred fresh conversation about motherhood and societal expectations, declaring that she would “gladly keep” a child conceived outside marriage.

Eke, who won Big Brother Naija Season 4, spoke during a recent podcast interview, stressing that while she is not actively seeking pregnancy, she won’t terminate it if it happens.

She asserted that the stigma surrounding single motherhood targets only women without financial stability.

“I won’t go the extra mile to get pregnant out of wedlock. But if it happens, I’d keep my baby,” she said, noting she hopes to have three children.

Eke insisted that marriage is not a prerequisite for motherhood, arguing that successful single mothers still attract suitors.

“The stigma applies only to women who don’t have things going well for them. The women breaking barriers have men begging them for marriage,” she stated.

She added that suitors are plentiful but she hasn’t found the qualities she wants in a partner. “Even if I have a baby, I would still see a man.”
