The Middle Belt Forum has expressed sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, recognizing him as an elder statesman respected by many Nigerians. However, the Forum’s President, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, also lamented the significant damage Buhari’s administration inflicted on Nigeria’s economy during his two terms in office.

In an interview with DAILY POST on Monday, Dr. Pogu remarked, “The demise of a leader respected by many is certainly lamentable. However, the damage to our economy and his comments on insecurity cannot be forgotten easily. May his soul rest in peace.”

Former President Buhari died on Sunday in London, where he was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness. Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside other government officials, has arrived in London to oversee the repatriation of Buhari’s remains, which are scheduled to be interred on Monday in Daura, his hometown.
