On Monday, a MI-171 helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Air Force that was transporting injured people crashed close to Chukuba Village in Niger State.
In a statement, NAF spokesman Edward Gabkwet acknowledged the mishap.
The number of passengers onboard or their condition were unknown as of the time of publication when the accident occurred at around 1pm.
“The plane had taken off from Zungeru Primary School bound for Kaduna, but it was later found to have crashed close to Chukuba Village in Niger State’s Shiroro Local Government Area.
While preliminary investigations have started to ascertain the likely reason of the disaster, efforts are still being made to save the helicopter’s crew and passengers.
Seven NAF personnel died on February 22, 2021, when their plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport while they were traveling from Abuja to Minna, the capital of the Niger State.
