The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a nationwide warning against the consumption of Indomie Noodles (Vegetable Flavour), declaring the product unsafe and ordering its immediate withdrawal following an international food safety alert.

In Public Alert No. 041/2025, released on Friday, the agency said France’s consumer protection authority, Rappel Conso, initiated a recall of the product after laboratory tests detected undeclared allergens.

NAFDAC disclosed that the affected noodles contain milk and eggs, substances not listed on the product label. The agency warned that the omission poses serious health risks, especially to people with allergies or food intolerances, as exposure could trigger severe or life-threatening reactions.

The recall affects all batches of the product with a best-before date of 6 February 2026. However, the alert did not specify the country where the noodles were manufactured.

According to NAFDAC, the warning was issued as a precautionary public health measure, given the potential danger the product poses to sensitive consumers.

While noting that the likelihood of the recalled noodles entering Nigeria is low due to the Federal Government’s ban on noodle imports, the agency cautioned that illegal importation through online shopping platforms or personal travel remains possible.

To prevent the product from circulating in the country, NAFDAC directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and immediately seize any of the affected noodles found in markets, warehouses, or distribution outlets.

The agency also urged consumers, wholesalers, and retailers to remain vigilant across the food supply chain. Nigerians in possession of the implicated Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles were advised to stop consumption immediately and safely dispose of the product.

Members of the public were encouraged to report sightings of the recalled noodles to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the toll-free line, 0800-162-3322. NAFDAC also called on consumers to report any adverse health effects linked to the product through its official e-reporting platforms.

The development has renewed concerns over food safety standards and the need for strict regulatory enforcement, particularly as instant noodles remain a staple in many Nigerian households.
