-Court Finds Corps Member’s Killer Guilty of Culpable Homicide
Justice Aboki Orders Death by Hanging for Brutal Murder in Nasarawa

The High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the gruesome murder and dismemberment of Salome Adaidu, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Simon Aboki found Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, which mandates the death penalty for offenders.

The court held that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Ajayi was responsible for the deliberate killing of the young corps member. He was convicted on a single count charge of culpable homicide, and Justice Aboki ordered that he be hanged by the neck until pronounced dead.

The case has drawn national attention due to its brutality and the victim’s status as a youth corps member serving her country.

The late Adaidu was reportedly killed in cold blood and her body dismembered, sparking public outrage and renewed calls for better protection of corps members across Nigeria.

Authorities have yet to release more details about the circumstances of the murder and the motive behind the crime. However, today’s verdict has been seen as a significant step in securing justice for Salome and her grieving family.

Further developments are expected as the case may proceed to the appellate courts.
