-APC Stakeholders Warn Against Extravagant Spending by Oyo Government
Criticise N63.5bn Agodi House Renovation, Call for Fiscal Prudence

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the outer city zone of Ibadanland, Oyo State, have strongly criticised Governor Seyi Makinde over what they described as reckless spending and financial mismanagement.

The APC leaders expressed outrage over the proposed N63.5 billion renovation of the Agodi Government House and other recent expenditures by the state government, including the N14.3 billion payment for an Instrument Landing System (ILS) for the Ladoke Akintola Airport, which is currently under upgrade.

In a communique issued at their quarterly meeting on Wednesday at the APC Secretariat in Egbeda Local Government Area, the stakeholders accused Governor Makinde of consistently disregarding due process in public spending, warning that such actions were unsustainable given the state’s economic reality.

“Oyo State cannot be classified as financially buoyant, despite the fact that Governor Makinde receives over N22 billion from federal allocations in addition to nearly N10 billion generated internally every month,” the communique stated.

The party chieftains warned that the state’s public debt profile, currently at about N500 billion, made it imperative for the government to prioritise sustainable development over extravagant projects.

They further alleged that the ILS project had already received a full payment of N42 billion, with an additional N10 billion later released, raising questions about transparency and value for money.

The communique was signed by notable party leaders including Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe (JP), Alhaji Rasaki Akilapa, Chief Lekan Adeyemo, Alhaji Sule Suara, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, Hon. Kunle Jenrade, Comrade Moshood Erubami, Hon. Muniru Adebayo, Alhaji Yinka Folarin, and Bashorun Billy Ogundele.

Also present at the meeting was Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, who joined the stakeholders in solidarity with the party’s leadership and position.

In a show of internal unity, the event featured an address by the APC Peace Advocates, a coalition of party loyalists led by Chief Wale Ohu and Prince Niran Adeyoju. The group urged all members to embrace love, unity, and cooperation to return the APC to power in 2027.

The stakeholders concluded by urging Governor Makinde to reconsider his fiscal priorities, particularly in light of post-subsidy funds that, they argued, should be channelled into long-term investments for the benefit of future generations.
